Understanding H numbers

“H Numbers” is a database of food additives indicating their halal status, developed by HSC-CU for use in the halal food industry. Additives are classified into three categories: Halal by Fatwa, Halal by Certification, and Mashbooh.
Halal by
Certification
Food additives that are synthetically produced or plant-derived and certified through a Fatwa by the Council of Experts of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand. They are permitted for use in halal foods.
Halal by
Fatwa
Food additives that may be at risk of contamination with prohibited substances during production. Halal certification by recognized religious organizations is required to ensure compliance in halal food production.

Mushbooh
Food additives with unclear or doubtful halal status, potentially at risk of contamination with prohibited substances, and without halal certification. Their use in halal foods is not recommended.
